The function of the brake disc is as a key component in the vehicle's braking system, using friction to reduce vehicle speed or stop the vehicle.

A brake disc is a round disc that works in conjunction with brake pads. When the driver applies the brakes, the brake calipers clamp the brake disc, creating friction that slows or stops the vehicle. The braking force of the brake disc comes from the brake caliper. During this process, the brake fluid (hydraulic oil) pushes the piston in the brake caliper, and the piston pushes the brake pad against the brake disc, generating friction. Brake discs usually have high tensile strength and bending strength to ensure that they are not prone to thermal decay during high-speed braking and maintain excellent braking performance.

In addition, the brake disc will also wear during the braking process. When the wear reaches a certain level, it needs to be replaced to ensure the braking effect and driving safety.

FRONTECH bimetallic brake disc

Brake disc bimetal refers to a brake disc structure composed of two different metal materials. Usually a combination of cast iron and steel (aluminum) is used. Cast iron has high strength and is cheap, but its heat dissipation performance is poor; while steel is not easy to deform, but due to its high hardness, it will generate a lot of heat when it wears with the brake pads, so its heat dissipation performance is relatively good. The use of a bimetal structure can combine the advantages of the two materials, making the brake disc more wear-resistant and with better heat dissipation performance.


(1) Better wear resistance: The use of bimetallic structure can make the brake disc have better wear resistance and extend its service life.

(2) Better heat dissipation: Cast iron brake discs have relatively poor heat dissipation, and the use of bimetallic structures can make the brake discs have better heat dissipation performance, effectively reduce heat accumulation during braking, and avoid brake failure due to overheating during braking.

Application scope of bimetallic brake discs

Bimetallic brake discs are suitable for high-strength applications such as highways and racetracks, as well as large heavy-duty vehicles such as cranes, concrete pump trucks, etc. For ordinary family cars or commercial vehicles, iron brake discs can be used instead of bimetallic brake discs.


Bimetal brake disc has a structure with excellent wear resistance and heat dissipation performance. It is suitable for high-intensity use occasions and large heavy-duty vehicles. The manufacturing process is complex and the production cost is high.
